The Radio Years
Clubs made me a DJ; radio made me a broadcaster. Two stations, two cities, two completely different crafts — and both of them changed how I play.
Power FM Club Charts — Istanbul
After the Taxim Night Park residency years, Istanbul's Power FM offered me the Club Charts show. The format was simple and brutal at the same time: every week, the tracks that actually moved the city's dancefloors, counted down, mixed live.
Radio is a different instrument. In a club, the floor forgives a slow build — they're already there. On radio, the listener is one thumb-flick from the next station: you have roughly ninety seconds to earn the next ninety. That constraint taught me to front-load energy, to edit intros on the fly, and to respect the hook. Every club set I've played since has been tighter because of it.
The show also made me a chart-keeper. I tracked what actually worked on Istanbul's floors — the deep house imports, the progressive anthems, the local edits — and the weekly list became a reference for promoters across the city. Some of those PowerApp Master DJ Sets are still archived online.
Wild FM — Sydney
When I settled in Sydney, Wild FM — the city's dance-radio institution — gave me airtime in a market I was still learning. Different city, different tempo: Sydney listeners wanted the warmer, funkier side of house, and the show let me explore it week after week alongside my Insenity residency.
Wild FM also connected me with the local scene beyond the booths — promoters, record stores, and the producers whose tracks I still play today. A radio slot, it turns out, is the best business card a working DJ can hold.
What radio left behind
- Economy. Say it musically, fast, or don't say it.
- Consistency. A weekly show doesn't accept excuses — the mix goes out whether the week was good or not.
- Chart-keeping. Knowing what works now, not last season.
- Voice. Literally — talking to a city you can't see is its own skill.
